"MINDLESS" vandals have smashed up a number of bus shelters in Farnworth, Kearsley and Horwich.

Damage has been caused to shelters on Manchester Road and Long Causeway in Kearsley as well as other locations in Farnworth such as Worsley Road.

Farnworth and Kearsley First committee member Craig Weatherby captured some of the damage caused to shelters on camera.

It is thought that the shelters were wrecked on Saturday.

Mr Weatherby said: "It's just pointless and mindless.

"I think it looks like it's been caused by either a BB air rifle/pistol/catapult and that whoever has done it has come in a car.

"Bus shelters have been damaged in Manchester Road in Kearsley all the way up to Station Road in Swinton.

"Children would have been waiting near them for school this morning and there would have been glass all over the ground."

Meanwhile, in Horwich a number of bus shelters were smashed on Chorley New Road, between St Joseph's RC High School and Horwich RMI.

It is believed they were damaged on Friday night.

Horwich and Blackrod First Independents councillor Marie Brady condemned the vandalism.
Cllr Brady said: "It is absolutely mindless especially with this weather.

"It's not going to be very pleasant waiting for a bus with no shelter.

"Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) have been informed but they have to get the contractors out to replace them.

"It is not fair on anybody."

The vandalism has been reported to TfGM.
