Blackburn's Scholars Restaurant has announced that it is today reopening its doors after having been forced to temporarily close due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The restaurant is staffed by catering students at Blackburn College and provides an opportunity for would-be chefs to hone their skills as they ready themselves for work in the businesses.

As such, the Feilden Street based eatery is able to offer customers a full three course meal for just £8.50.

A spokesperson said: "It's an exciting day for Team Scholars, we are opening the doors to customers for the first time since March!

"We can't wait to see you all again."

The pandemic situation has ushered in a difficult period for the restaurant trade all around the UK, with businesses across the hospitality industry reporting severe drops in trade due to the crisis.

However, Scholars Restaurant benefits from an enthusiastic team of students who are also eager to get back to learning their craft and is also staffed by industry professionals.

Blackburn College says that this hands on learning process also allows customers to return throughout the year to see for themselves how budding chefs develop and perfect their skills.

The dishes will also form part of student assessment, with every aspect of customers meal making up part of their attendant student's overall marks.

The restaurant can be found in the Elizabeth Building at Blackburn College.
