Burnley continues to record the highest rate of coronavirus infections in England with 340.8 cases per 100,000 people, according to figures released by Public Health England today.
Meanwhile, A total of 1,600 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in Manchester in the seven days to September 29.
This is the equivalent of 289.4 cases per 100,000 people – up from 189.4 in the previous week.
It means Manchester currently has the second highest weekly rate of new cases in England behind Burnley.
The figures also show that Liverpool has the third highest weekly rate of new cases in England.
Other cities continuing to see increases in their weekly rate include Newcastle upon Tyne (up from 212.0 to 239.4, with 725 new cases); Leeds (up from 119.7 to 149.3, with 1,184 new cases); and Nottingham (up from 42.7 to 100.6, with 335 new cases).
Nationally, figures show there were 2,084 Covid-19 patients in hospital in England as of Friday, up from 1,615 a week ago, while 310 Covid-19 hospital patients were in ventilation beds, up from 227 a week ago.
A total of 328 patients with confirmed Covid-19 were admitted to hospitals in England on Wednesday, compared with 314 a week earlier.
