A RESTAURANT in Burnley has decided to temporarily close amid concerns about rising coronavirus cases in the area.

The Beijing Cantonese Restaurant took the decision after an employee tested positive for the virus and decided to react proactively with the cautionary measure.

This comes as Burnley continues to top the national coronavirus infection rate table.

In a statement, the restaurant said: "As with all of the decisions we have made across this unprecedented period, the safety of our people and customers is our absolute priority and we will reopen as soon as we feel we can.

"We apologise to any customers who have made reservations, thank you."
