A SECTION of the M65 was closed for several hours last night as efforts were made to clear the road from flooding.

The police announced on their social media channels that the road was closed between junctions eight and seven westbound (between Accrington and the Hapton interchange), shortly after 7.30pm.

The road was closed for over three hours as floodwater was cleared from the road, which was re-opened at around 10.30pm.

It is believed the persistent, heavy rain that fell throughout the day on Wednesday was the blame for the incident, with much more bad weather expected over the coming days.

Several people have shared their frustrations with the on-going issue, demanding something is done about it.

One person said: “Drainage required since the new concrete sections gone in, but that's common sense, which was sadly missing in the planning.”

Another added: “Needs sorting that part of the 65, always flooding.”
