A FLINTSHIRE care home's staff dressed up as superheroes to brighten up its residents' day while also paying tribute to social care workers across the UK.

Bryn yr Haul Care Home in Mold held a Superhero Day whereby its residents took part in a variety of activities, including tombola in aid of the residents' fund, and staff came to work in superhero fancy dress.

The superhero theme was in recognition of all the staff who work in care homes; including the housekeeping and cooks in addition to the nurses and carers, admin and maintenance staff.

Laura Jane Mockford, home administrator at Bryn yr Haul, explained: "Not all superheroes wear capes whilst they are in work and while the government has instructed the whole country to stay at home, its guidance on self isolation and social distancing isn’t much use to careers.

"We cannot be two meters away from a service user, because we give personal care. All carers are at direct risk, but if we stopped working, who else would look after the most vulnerable and elderly?

"We enjoy helping people and we have good relationships with our service users and cannot leave them at this time.

"Some never get to see a family member, so they spend the day with us - we are the closest company, a hand to hold, it’s an honour to help them."
