Tauheedul Islam Boys' High School has sent students home following several positive coronavirus cases.

The school has asked pupils who have been in close contact with the positive cases to self isolate at home for 14 days.

A spokesperson for TIBHS said: "We have had confirmation from parents that a few pupils have tested positive for COVID-19 and are now self-isolating at home.

"Working with the Trust’s COVID Response Team, we swiftly identified those who had been in close contact with the pupils.

"As an entirely precautionary measure, these pupils are now self-isolating at home where they will continue their studies online until they return to school.

“We have planned extensively for this scenario and carefully organised pupils into groups and limited their movements around the school to prevent the risk of the virus spreading.

"This enabled us to quickly trace who may have been exposed to the virus and to ask them to self-isolate for 14 days.

“Due to the robust and extensive measures we have put in place to protect our pupils and staff, there is no indication that the virus has been spread within our school.

"The school remains safe and open to all other pupils. We will continue to work closely with Public Health England, the Department for Education and the local authority.”

The school has not confirmed which groups of students are affected and how many positive cases have been confirmed.
