The house was built in 1757 for Daniel Wilson of Dallam Tower, a politician in the House of Commons for 34 years.
A brewery was licensed nearby in 1758 for John Whitwell of Highgate, it later became Whitwell, Mark & Co. and in 1858 a new brewery was built in the gardens behind the house.
