Emergency services were at the scene following a major crash in Blackburn.

A car had its roof cut open and another vehicle was severely damaged.

One vehicle is believed to be a taxi.

Traffic has been blocked near Darwen Street bridge itself.

A motorist at the scene said: “It looked pretty bad. I hope everyone involved is okay.

“There was a lot of emergency services at the scene on car had all of its roof removed.

"One car I could make out was a taxi.

"Traffic has been diverted and cordon was being put up." 

A spokesperson for the police said: "We were called at around 12.50pm to a crash involving two cars close to Blackburn Ice Arena and Darwen Street Bridge.

"Two cars have crashed and two people have been trapped in one of the vehicles.

"The fire service attended and cut the occupants out of the car."

It is not thought the people in the vehicle were badly injured but it is believed they were treated at the scene and were not required to attend hospital.
