A school has issued a warning to parents after receiving information from concerned parents about a man prowling a play area, trying to talk to girls.

Hippings Methodist Primary School, in Oswaldtwistle, send a message to parents asking them to keep their children safe after a man was seen acting suspiciously in Rhyddings Park on Thursday afternoon.

The message read: "Please keep your children with you at all times.

"I have received a number of messages about an incident in Rhyddings Park last night at about 3.45pm.

"A man has been seen acting suspiciously on and around the play area and going up to girls.

"The police have been informed and have said they will step up patrols in the area.

"Please be vigilant and keep your children close to you. Stay safe."

A spokesperson for the police confirmed they were called to the area and are now carrying out enquiries.

The spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a man acting suspiciously in a park in Park Lane, Oswaldtwistle, at 4.18pm yesterday (September 10).

"Enquiries are ongoing and patrols have been stepped up in the area."
