BLACKBURN College today confirmed that a staff member and two students have tested positive for coronavirus.

This comes just three days after teaching began for further education students on September 7.

Higher education students are set to begin their autumn terms on Monday 14 September.

Blackburn College principal and chief executive Dr Fazal Dad said: “The College has received confirmation that two current students and a staff member have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. The three positive test results are not linked and the College has been contacted by Public Health England.

“Following Public Health England North West advice, those groups and tutors who have come into direct contact with the students and staff member in question have been asked to work from home and self-isolate for a period of 14 days from the receipt of the students and staff member’s positive test result. Those affected have been informed.”

“We will continue to consult with Public Health England as the pandemic takes its course, and ensure we are doing everything we can as a community to keep everyone safe.”

“Finally, the safety of our staff and students is paramount.”

The college had been closed for much of last term in order to limit the spread of the virus and has introduced new social distancing and health and safety measures since reopening.
