A STRETCH of the M65 has reopened after a police incident.

Emergency services were called to a scene between junctions five and six (Shadsworth and Blackburn) at around 11.30am this morning.

The carriageway had been closed at junction five eastbound and junction six westbound.

Motorists were advised to find an alternative route after the closures caused chaos across the network.

The incident was resolved shortly after 3pm, and traffic officers and maintenance crews started working to reopen the carriageway.

Both stretches of road were cleared and open for traffic at around 3.45pm, although residual congestion caused minor delays to some motorists in the area.

It is not yet clear what caused the closure.
