THE Class of 2020 at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre is planning to move on to university following outstanding A-level results.

In an academic year impacted by Covid-19, students have received grades which reflect their performance throughout their two-year course, results verified by Ofqual, the government’s official qualifications regulator.

Results see the college achieve an overall pass rate of 99.8 per cent; 96% of students achieved at least one A*-C grade; 73% achieved at least one A*-B grade and 34 per cent achieved at least one A* or A grade.

Sam Jackson-Smith, from Burnley, a former Ermysteds Grammar School pupil, has plans to take a year out to travel the world before applying to read Chemistry at the University of Oxford after achieving A*AAA in Computer Science, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.

Oscar Duck, from West Bradford, Ribble Valley, a former Bowland High pupil, who has plans to launch his own business as a blacksmith, achieved A*A*AB in Product Design, Mathematics, Ancient History and Chemistry.

Rianna Hill, from Haslingden, a former Alder Grange Community and Technology School pupil, plans to read Criminology at Lancaster University after achieving A*A*A in Sociology, Psychology and English Literature.

Ellie Ayrton, from Barnoldswick, a former West Craven High School pupil, will read Film-Making at Leeds Beckett University after achieving A*AA in Film Studies, English Literature and Drama.

Elly Shuttleworth, from Padiham, a former Ribblesdale High School pupil, plans to read Fashion Design with Marketing at the University of Huddersfield after achieving A*AA in Art and Design, Mathematics and Statistics.

Mollie Jesson, from Barnoldswick, a former West Craven High School pupil, plans to read English at the University of York after achieving A*AA in an A Level Extended Project, English Language/Literature and Sociology and an additional Distinction in a Subsidiary Diploma in Music.
