THE number of new coronavirus cases across Lancashire was unknown on Thursday, as the Government cited ‘technical issues’ for the reason they were unable to provide data for the second time this week.

As such, the number of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 over the last number of days are expected to be announced alongside today’s figures.

Public Health England tweeted about the matter, saying: “"Owing to technical difficulties with data processing, the England and UK cases and tests data is not expected to be updated today."

On Wednesday,  104 new cases were reported across East Lancashire, with Blackburn with Darwen’s numbers shooting up by 47 – bringing the borough’s total to 1606.

Pendle recorded 22 new cases, with a total of 709, closely followed by Burnley where 18 further people tested positive for the virus. The total number of infections there now stands at 551.

In Hyndburn 13 new cases were announced, bringing the total there to 427.

Three people tested positive in Rossendale while just one did in The Ribble Valley, brining the totals there to 304 and 210 respectively.
