CANCER Research UK nurses will bring their roadshow to Runcorn tomorrow, Thursday.
Supported by Ronan Keating, the travelling event is delivered in partnership with the Marie Keating Foundation, which was set up by the Boyzone singer and his family in memory of their mum Marie, who died from breast cancer.
The roadshow aims to raise cancer awareness and encourage people to seek help from their GP should persistent symptoms arise, and was temporarily paused in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
But it will resume at Runcorn Shopping City between 10am and 4pm, and will return to the town on Thursday, August 27, with new safety measures in place to protect staff and the public.
Nurses will also be talking to people about cancer screening where relevant, with their work being more important than ever following Covid-19 disruption to cancer services across the UK.
“It is really important that people know to contact their GP if they notice any changes to their bodies that are unusual or persistent, and that there is lots we can all do to help reduce the risk of cancer,” Ronan said.
“The roadshow helps to get these messages out to people as they go about their daily lives in town centres, shopping malls and community centres.

“My family and I are very proud to support the Cancer Research UK Cancer Awareness Roadshow and we think our mum would be pleased with the work we are doing.”
Ceri Eames, Cancer Research UK senior cancer awareness nurse in the north west, added: “We are looking forward to talking to lots of people from Runcorn about the steps they can take to reduce their risk of cancer, through changes like stopping smoking, reducing alcohol intake and keeping a healthy weight.
“Experts estimate around four in 10 cases of cancer could be prevented each year in the UK.
“It is also vital that people continue to seek help for symptoms that could be a sign of cancer, as when spotted early, treatment for cancer is more likely to be effective.
“At a time when the world feels very unusual for many of us, there is one thing that has not stopped, and that is cancer.”
