A DEVOTED couple proved their love for each other by going back down the aisle ... of their local supermarket.
Stanley and Anne Brotherton’s ceremony with a difference took place at ASDA in Accrington in 2006 with a little help from the store’s resident chaplin, Bishop Phillip Norris.
The couple, who had been married for 36 years, were only in the store to do a bit of shopping but after a chance meeting with the bishop decided to go ahead with the ceremony in the fresh flowers section.
Mrs Brotherton, said: “None of my friends believe that we got married again in ASDA.”
Having lost her wedding ring and as Stanley had never had a ring the couple decided to get new ones but wanted to have them blessed.
They first went to St James’ Church in Accrington in search of advice but after finding it closed, went to do some shopping in ASDA.
Mrs Brotherton added: “We saw the bishop and I told Stanley to ask him about blessing the rings, but just as a joke.
“The next thing we knew he had organised a whole ceremony, I just wanted to enquire and make arrangements.
“I had never been so embarrassed in my whole life but it was really nice.”
The ceremony saw Bishop Phillip give a short reading before blessing the rings in front of crowds of shoppers. plus sons Stephen and granddaughter Rebecca.
