A number of new buildings are going up in Blackburn with work continuing in recent weeks despite being hampered by the lockdown. Here are details on what they are and when they are due to open.

New Lidl Store

Work on the new Lidl Store off Furthergate (opposite the Shell Petrol Station) is moving at a fast pace. The store with a sales area of 1256m2  will create up to 40 new jobs an in-store bakery, customer toilets and ample parking for both cars and bicycles. We can reveal it is set to open in the Autumn.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Renault and Dacia Car Show room

A new car showroom is being built across on Barbara Castle Way across from the Vauxhall Stone Acre Garage. We can reveal it is due to open in March 2021. The building is on land where the Larkhill Health Centre once stood.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Retail shops and offices

A new set of retail shops are being built across from the Blackburn Enterprise Centre and Tesco Blackburn on Hill Street. Due to be open by the end of the year the upper floor will host offices and the ground floor will potentially feature food outlets.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Islamic Education Centre

Based off Davenport Road and not visible from the main street this is being built with donations from the local community. This will be used in addition to the much smaller Islamic Education Centre on Davenport Road which is too small to accommodate attendees from the localised area. It is due to open at the end of next year.

Hilton Hotel Blackburn

The 150-room hotel was due to open this summer, but construction delays have meant it will now open in 2021. Work on the hotel is continuing.

Reel Cinema

Building work on the Reel Cinemas is nearing completion with the barricades on Barton Street having been removed. The £6.5m cinema is expected to open in November with the site being handed over to fitters in September.
