THE BODY of a man has been found on a stretch of canal in Blackburn.
A forensic tent and crime scene investigators were set up at the Leeds and Liverpool Canal close to Warwick Court, Blackburn, shortly before 9am on Wednesday.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of a man which was later removed from the canal.
Officers remained at the scene throughout the afternoon carrying out an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The discovery is not being treated as suspicious.
A police spokesman said: “We were called to a report of a body in the Leeds Liverpool Canal close to Warwick Court. Police are at the scene and enquiries are ongoing.”
The latest death along the stretch has prompted many to share their frustrations at any lack of effort to secure certain areas along the canal – following a string of deaths over the last few years.
On February 27, a body of a man in his 50s was discovered in the water close to the former Lockside Tavern – just metres away from the most recent find.
One person said: “Too many people have died in that canal somethings not right. It needs making safer and CCTV installation.”
Another added: “I can’t believe this - another one. It feels like this is happening every month, something clearly needs to be done.”
