It’s national afternoon tea week next week, which is the perfect excuse to tuck into some sandwiches and scones.

East Lancashire is home to a surprising amount of afternoon tea venues that suit a variety of budgets- the teas on this list range from £10-£22pp.

Here are some of the best afternoon teas in East Lancashire:

Mad Hatters Cupcakes and Tea Room
Where: 15 Town Hall Street, Blackburn

Dainty sandwiches, scones and bite-sized pastries are on the afternoon tea menu at Mad Hatters. They also specialise in savour options, with mini pies and sausage rolls also on the menu.

Best of all, Mad Hatters benefits from the Eat Out scheme- afternoon teas are usually £12.50 a person but they are £6.25 per person under the new scheme.

Dolly’s Tearoom
Where: 386 Bolton Road, Darwen

The teas are £15 per person and served on a tiered stand with traditional pottery.

The afternoon tea includes: a small cup of soup of the day, a selection of sandwiches, a sweet treat, a fruit scone, a mini meat pie, and a pot of tea or speciality coffee.

If you want to turn it into a boozy afternoon tea, you can add a bottle of prosecco for £14 or bucks fizz for £5.00.

At Dolly's, presentation is key and teas are served on chintzy pottery and vintage stands.

Suzanne Halliwell, owner of Dolly's Tearoom and Restaurant, said: "Our afternoon teas are the perfect treat for a meal out with friends or family or to mark a special occasion.

"They're made fresh on the premises from ingredients sourced locally and are rated highly by our customers."

If you want afternoon tea here, then it needs to be ordered 24 hours in advance with a £5 deposit.

Bertram’s Restaurant

This is one of the more expensive afternoon teas on the menu- but it definitely looks luxurious.

The savoury selection includes: soup of the day, a Lancashire cheese melt, lamb kofta, mini shepherd’s pie and a selection of finger sandwiches.

Sweet treats include: a homemade scone, blacurrant tart, profiterole and a triple chocolate brownie.
 
Afternoon tea is £22pp and you can add a glass of prosecco for and extra £5.

A Right Royal Tea Party
Where: Burnley Road, Crawshawbooth.

Fancy afternoon tea at home?

A Right Royal Tea Party is selling boxed afternoon teas for £10pp (£5pp for children). They consist of sandwiches, a pastry and a scone with clotted cream and jam.

Phil and Janice, owners of the tea room, spoke to The Lancashire Telegraph.

They said: "Our afternoon tea includes products from our local butcher Riley’s and is really good value for money.

"Our scones are homemade and are delicious - if we do say so ourselves."

Afternoon tea is collection only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Krafty Cow Tea Room

Where: James Street, Burnley

Kellie, owner of Krafty Cow Tea Room, said: "We are a totally unique tea room that is extremely child friendly".

Afternoon teas here consist of a selection of sandwiches, cakes and pastries- and they are a bargain price.

For adults, it’s £10pp and for kids it will cost £6.99 per person- pottery and slime kits are also available to purchase if you want to keep the little ones entertained (from £3.50).

They are available every Wednesday and Friday and advanced booking is essential if you want to try one of Kraft Cow’s afternoon teas.
