ANOTHER area in East Lancashire has seen a sharp increase in the number of people testing positive for the coronavirus over the last 24 hours.

In total, 59 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed across Lancashire on Tuesday, with Pendle recording 20 new cases of the virus – significantly more than any other borough over the same period.

In Blackburn with Darwen, 6 new cases were announced, dramatically down from Monday’s figures, when 40 fresh cases were announced.

The other two areas in East Lancashire to record cases were Hyndburn and Burnley, where six and nine cases were reported respectively.

No new cases were announced within Rossendale or the Ribble Valley.

Burnley: 506 - 569 per 100,000

Hyndburn: 398 - 491 per 100,000

Pendle: 611 - 663 per 100,000

Ribble Valley: 204 - 335 per 100,000

Rossendale: 303 - 423 per 100,000
