A MAN who harassed a woman by breaching a restraining order before assaulting her has been jailed.

Lee Jones had already admitted two counts of assault and one of harassment.

The 41-year-old of no fixed abode appeared for sentencing at Oxford Crown Court yesterday.

Prosecutors said that Jones was with the woman at an address in Sutton Courtenay, despite being prohibited from doing so, on July 19 this year.

While there he started drinking alcohol when he became aggressive and began shouting.

Soon after he punched the woman - with whom he had been in a relationship with for four years and is now subject to a restraining order.

Jones has repeatedly flouted his restraining order on previous occasions.

He also admitted and was sentenced for another count of assault upon a male who cannot be named for legal reasons.

In mitigation his defence team said that Jones had alcohol-dependency problems and that tackling that dependency would help break the cycle of crime.

Sentencing, Judge Nigel Daly said: “Whatever order the court makes you breach it, you just don’t seem to take this order seriously.”

Jones was jailed for a total of two years and he must also pay a statutory victim surcharge.

He remains subject to an indefinite restraining order against his victim.

Last year, Jones was jailed at Oxford Magistrates' Court after again flouting the ban and assaulting the woman.

He harassed her between July and August in the Abingdon area, contacting her and attended her address before finally assaulting her, leading to a head injury. He was jailed for a total of 26 weeks.

Speaking after that sentence investigating officer, PC Edward Dodd, said: “This type of offence will not be tolerated, and Thames Valley Police will always investigate when reports of this nature are made to us."
