A video shows a 4x4 car on fire on the M61.

Fire crews were called to deal with a car well alight between junction five and six on the M61 heading southbound towards Bolton around 8.45am on Sunday.

A fire engine from both Horwich fire station and Bolton Central had to attend the incident, finding the car alight in the hard shoulder.

Crews had to wear breathing apparatus to deal with the incident, tackling the fire for over 30 minutes.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 8:45am to reports of a car fire on the M61 southbound between Junction 5 and 6.

"A fire engine from Horwich and one from Bolton Central attended and found a fire involving a car on the hard shoulder.

"Crews wearing one breathing apparatus used one hose reel to extinguish the fire. Crews were on the scene until around 9.25am."

No one was injured in the incident.
