WHITWORTH Post Office is due to open at WME Convenience Store, 303 Market Street, on Monday at 1pm.

This comes after a relocation from 295 Market Street, Whitworth, before lockdown and a temporary closure in April due to concerns about the spread of coronavirus.

Opening hours will be significantly extended to Monday to Saturday 8am-7pm and Sunday 9am-6pm, which amounts to an extra 30 hours of service.

Post Office regional change manager Lesley McNally said: “We are delighted to be restoring post office service to Whitworth as we know how important a post office is to a community.

We remain confident that the layout and location of the new branch will continue to meet customer needs and deliver an excellent service, while securing the long-term viability of Post Office services in the local community.”

Due to social distancing guidelines, staff had at first been unable to open the branch at the new agreed location.

However, with guidelines now changed, managers have been able to provide the necessary on-site training to open the branch in its new setting.

The premises will continue to abide by social distancing regulations and will be offering postal services from two open-plan counters to help customers keep their distance.
