A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of possession with the intent to supply class A drugs after crashing his car and being chased by the police.

At around 1.20pm on Wednesday officers in Blackburn witnessed a suspected drugs transaction on St Michael's Street in the town.

When they later attempted to stop a black VW Golf which they believe to have been involved in the incident, it sped away from officers before crashing into a vehicle on Whalley Range before speeding off again.

A 17-year-old boy was later found and arrested for dangerous driving and possession with intent to supply class A drugs after police discovered weapons and wraps of white and brown powder believed to be heroin and crack cocaine inside the vehicle.

A spokesperson for the police said: "At around 1.20pm on Wednesday officers from the Targeted Crime Team witnessed a suspected drugs transaction on St Michaels Street, Blackburn.

"When officers attempted to stop a black VW Golf involved the car drove off at speed before crashing into a member of the public’s vehicle on Whalley Range before making off again.

"The vehicle was located a short time after on Naarian Court and a 17-year-old male from Blackburn located nearby in possession of cash, phones and the car key.

"A search of the vehicle uncovered weapons and wraps of white and brown powder believed to be heroin and crack cocaine.

"The juvenile was arrested for dangerous driving and possession with intent to supply class A drugs and the vehicle has been seized.

"Luckily no-one was injured as a result of the accident and the officers involved would like to thank the members of the public for their help at the scene and directing the team to where the vehicle had gone."
