A couple who are raffling their dream home have donated thousands of pounds to a charity helping children during the current Covid-19 crisis.

In the competition being staged by Ryan McLean and Katherine Jablonowska, one lucky winner could become the new owner of the luxurious two bedroom property for just £5!

The pair pledged to support The Children’s Society throughout the 'win a cottage' competition and have already donated £20,000 to the charity’s Emergency Coronavirus Appeal with a plan to raise thousands more.

Katherine, 33 and Ryan, 41, purchased the picturesque property in North Wales with a view to selling it in a raffle for just £5 a ticket, giving someone the chance to win Cwellyn Cottage, which the couple have totally transformed with bespoke fixtures and fittings.

Wirral Globe:

The husband and wife team’s relentless renovations over the past two years have seen the cottage double in value and it’s now worth £290,000.

Professional chef Ryan said: “We have passed the 60,000 ticket sale milestone, so we’re officially over half way to reaching our minimum ticket sales needed to award the cottage!

Hospitality manager Katherine added: “From the outset we knew we wanted to support a charity that helps children. We’ve been blown away by the amount we’ve been able to raise so far and are passing on the donations every month.

Wirral Globe:

"When the competition closes on September 15, 2020 and the prize draw takes place later that month, we hope to also be able to match every charity donation made throughout the competition, that’s the plan.”

Joe Jenkins, Director of Engagement & Income Generation at The Children’s Society, said:  “We are bowled over by the generosity of Katherine, Ryan and everyone who has entered the competition so far.

“Every penny raised helps us in our mission to change the lives of some of the country’s most vulnerable children and young people - including those at risk of sexual and criminal exploitation, those struggling with mental ill-health and young refugees.

Wirral Globe:

“The lockdown has left many isolated at home and hidden from the view of professionals like teachers and social workers, and some at risk for the first time. They need our help now more than ever.  Thank you to everyone raising much-needed funds for our work”
