TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular RNLI volunteer and Blackburn woman.

Patricia Margaret (Pattie) Barnes passed away peacefully in hospital following a short illness, on July 8, 2020.

Pattie, of Clayton-le-Moors, was aged 73 when she died.

Pattie was well-known in Hyndburn and gave up her spare time to charity, regularly helping as a volunteer and serving on the Accrington branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute committee for over 25 years.

Family paid tribute to her and said she was the devoted and adored wife of Jim, loving mum of Mark, Karen and Sarah, dear mother-in-law of Sarah, Paul and Mark.

Pattie was a cherished grandma of Steven, Thomas, Jacob, Lewis and Liam, great-grandma of Robyn, dear sister of Peter and his wife Kathleen.

Pattie was well known and spent her younger years working as a window dresser at Littlewood’s store in Blackburn and later worked at H J Wilson’s.

According to her family she met the love of her life Jim in 1966 and they were married in 1967 and shared a wonderful and happy 53 years of marriage.

She was the most devoted wife to Jim and during his service in the army she accompanied him with their children to wherever he was posted.

This included a spell of living in Germany.

Following their return to the UK the couple set up home in Clayton-le-Moors.

Pattie started working at Bonmarché as the manageress and then moved to Gene Sutcliffe’s, where she became a well-known and well-loved face.

Most of all Pattie was regarded as a loving family lady who doted on her children and grandchildren.

Pattie always looked forward to getting away on holiday and travelled around the globe over the years.

According to her loved ones, Pattie would do anything for anyone.

A private family funeral service will be held at Accrington Crematorium.
