A WOMAN has been released by police pending investigation after she was arrested on suspicion of assisting or encouraging suicide.

Police were called to the Dunkenhalgh Hotel on Blackburn Road in Clayton-le-Moors last Thursday following a concern for welfare report.

Once inside the hotel, they found a 19-year-old man dead and a 46-year-old woman with serious injuries.

A spokesperson for the police said: "At around 1.45am on Thursday, July 9, officers looking for a man and woman following concerns for their welfare, attended the Dunkenhalgh Hotel on Blackburn Road in Clayton-le-Moors.

"Inside, police found a man aged 19 sadly deceased, and a woman aged 46 with serious injuries.

"She was given first aid by officers and taken to the Royal Preston Hospital to be treated.

The incident is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

There is nothing at this stage to suggest any other persons were involved.

The spokesperson added: "The families of those involved have been contacted and our thoughts are with them at this time.

"A post-mortem examination has been carried out on the man but the cause of death remains unascertained."

A spokesperson for Accor, the parent company of Mecure Hotels said: "As this is a police matter we cannot comment."

The woman, who was later arrested, has now been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
