An appeal has been launched to find a 'violent and dangerous' man who punched a female police officer in the face.

Ben Monks, who is known to have associates 'all over Burnley' is wanted in connection with a serious assault and an assault on an emergency worker.

The attack on the PC took place on Friday, when she was trying to detain Monks.

A spokesperson for the police said: "We are issuing an appeal to trace Ben Monks who is wanted for a serious assault and assault an emergency worker.

"On July 10 a female officer has attempted to detain Monks when he has punched her in the face causing injuries to her eye that required medical attention including an injury that was glued.

"Monks is known to have associates all over Burnley.

"He is a white male and is described as being 5ft 9in tall, of stocky build, with ginger hair and a beard.

"Any immediate sightings please call 999 and do not approach this male - he is violent and dangerous."
