UPDATED: Woman found safe and well in Great Harwood.
A spokesperson for the police said: "We started a search on Monday evening for a woman in her 70s who had been reported missing from her home in Rishton.
"She was found on Wednesday morning safe and well in Great Harwood."
A police helicopter has been launched and the mountain rescue team deployed as emergency services continue their search for a missing woman.
No further details have been confirmed by the police at present, but the woman, who is believed to be in her 70s, is thought to have been missing since Tuesday evening.
On Wednesday morning police confirmed the service helicopter had been launched and residents had spotted it circling over the Great Harwood area close to Alan Ramsbottom Way.
It is thought the woman's car was found abandoned in the town.
The mountain rescue team are believed to be aiding police with the search, which was launched last night.
