A care home has been taking part in a challenge to reconnect its residents to nature and do something wild every day for a month.

The challenge has been set by the Wildlife Trusts with the 30 days Wild Challenge aiming to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the natural environment.

Residents living at Lever Edge Care Home, in Lever Edge Lane, Great Lever, have planted and picked flowers and herbs from their garden to make a variety of products such as bath bombs and perfumes.

As well as this, residents have been making daisy chains, been on an insect hunt in the garden and watched animals in zoos around the world via online video streams.

One resident, Margaret Goulden, said how much she enjoyed making perfume, which she called "Loving by Lever Edge", and how much it reminded her of her youth.

She said: "It brought back memories of making rose perfume when I was a child."

Alix Isherwood, activities coordinator at Lever Edge Care Home, said: "Everyone has enjoyed getting closer to nature and spending more time outdoors.

"We recently raised some money selling t-shirts and selling ice-creams to staff and 30 Days Wild has inspired us to spend the money on a potting shed for our garden so we can spend more time outdoors.”
