A NEW group aiming to rid Barry of litter has sprung up and will hold its first official event in Barry Island on Monday, July 6.
DOBB, Doing Our Bit Barry, wants to help make Barry a litter free town and encourage people to take action and help stop littering.
The group was set up by Toyah Newman who is a maintenance technician at Cardiff International pool.

Miss Newman, 26, of Barry, said: “I’ve created a Facebook and Instagram page to update people where I have litter picked, where I am going to litter pick. and any updates.
“I was so upset about the litter all around Barry, especially how the beaches have been left after we had that lovely weather a few weeks ago which is why I thought I’d do something constructive.
"So I started litter picking.
“Little did I know, it took the interest from lots of people who all suggested I started a group and get help on my mission - so I did.”
“At the moment it’s still quite a small group, but I’ve had a lot of support and interest,” she said.
“A lot of people are asking me to let me them know when I plan to litter pick which is why I’ve set up a community trial litter pick on Monday at Barry island at 6pm.
“The aim to make Barry a litter free town and to encourage people to stop littering and to do their bit to preserve Barry’s beauty.
“Anyone can join and get involved.
“Ideally bring some heavy-duty bin liners, a pair of gloves, and a litter picker.
“I do have some that I can lend out, but it is a self-funding charity - so I haven’t got a lot just yet.
“So far, I’ve litter picked Barry island with the help of some friends and family.
“I’ve also had help litter picking the Bendricks, which is still ongoing.”
She added: “I have got plans to get t-shirt printed to anyone interested and I’m also is contact with some local skip companies to dispose of any litter collected.
“My plan is to eventually work with the council to sort some more bins out around Barry and to think of ways to help encourage people to look after our town.”

Volunteers will meet at the Barry Island bandstand at 6pm on Monday, June 6.
