AN Ellesmere Port man was caught drug-driving for the second time in just over a month.

Ben Peter Dougherty, 38, of Sutton Way, was stopped in a cul-de-sac by police in the last half-hour of 2019, and was found to have cocaine and cannabis in his blood.

Appearing at Chester Magistrates Court on Friday, July 3, Dougherty pleaded guilty to the December 31 offences of drug-driving and failing to stop for police.

He also pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine, crack cocaine and diamorphine (heroin) from November 29.

Prosecuting, Alan Currums said the November 29 offences happened on Church Street, Ellesmere Port, just after 9.10pm.

He was stopped by officers for drug-driving, an offence for which Dougherty has been dealt with separately.

The December 31 offences happened on Whitby Road at 11.30pm, when officers tried to stop Dougherty on his Lexmoto.

He was ultimately stopped in Warrington Avenue.

He was tested and had levels of cocaine, cocaine breakdown and THC (cannabis breakdown) in his bloodstream above the legal limit.

The court heard Dougherty was sentenced to a three-year driving ban in March for the November 29 drug-driving offences.

Defending, Scott McCrimmon said it was odd the drug-driving offence from November 29 had been split from the drugs possession charges.

He said a pre-sentence report would be required, adding Dougherty had been going through a number of personal issues during the end of 2019, including the loss of his grandmother, his job and his relationship.

Magistrates adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report to be compiled and Doughterty will be sentenced on July 31.

He was released on unconditional bail, but placed on an interim driving ban.
