TWO tiny ducklings were rescued by quick-thinking fire crews and helpful B&M Bargains staff after they fell down a drain while following their mum.

On Thursday afternoon firefighters were called to Colne after receiving reports that the two ducklings had walked over a grid and fallen between the cracks.

With assistance from B&M staff, who handed rescuers a fishing net, and using hydraulic spreaders to prise open the drain cover, crews were able to reach down and save the little creatures before they perished.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “A quick save today for Colne’s crew.

“Mum and her ducklings walked over a grid, two fell down it.

“Thanks to B&M Bargains in Colne who donated a fishing net to help with the rescue.”

Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson even took to Twitter to applaud the actions of the emergency services, saying: “Well done Colne Fire.”
