BOLTON firefighters have been taking extra precautions as they look to prevent the devastating moorland fire of two years ago.
The blaze, which broke out on June 26, 2018, required hundreds of firefighters from all over the country and support from the Army to extinguish it.
This week Bolton North and Horwich Wildfire crews could be seen on Winter Hill training to use brushcutters which help remove excess undergrowth and grass.
During drought, this vegetation can become perfect fuel for a fire especially when driven by strong winds.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer Leon Parkes said: “The memories of the fires two years ago and the destruction that was caused are still fresh in the minds of everyone involved. Our message on this is simple - never have a barbecue or campfire on the moors or start a fire deliberately.”
