PAUL ROGERS, a 52-year-old prolific thief, of Drayton Close, Halliwell, was jailed for 876 days after committing a string of offences.

Rogers, who was described as a dyed-in-the-wool burglar, committed the offences to feed a drug habit. He sneaked into the house of an 87-year-old woman and stole £180 from her handbag and, two days later, forced his way into a family's home, stealing keys to their Mercedes, which he was unable to start.

ARON BALONGO, aged 23, of Bromwich Street, Bolton, wore a Halloween mask and smashed his way into a neighbour's flat before attacking him with dumbbells as he lay in bed.

Balongo claimed he carried out the vicious attack because he thought his victim had given him AIDS.

He was jailed for six years after pleading guilty to aggravated burglary.

MOHAMMAD TANWEER HUSSAIN, 42, of Bromwich Street, Bolton, was sentenced to 22 weeks in prison after he admitted spitting in a police officer's face and racially abusing another policeman.

Manchester magistrates heard that the offences followed an incident in Bolton on May 23.

PAUL FREEK pinned his girlfriend down and bit off part of her ear in a sickening drug-fuelled attack.

Freek, aged 40, of Park Road Westhoughton, was jailed for two years. He had denied causing actual bodily harm but was convicted following a trial.

PAUL TONG was once part of a gang who attacked a man they wrongly accused of being a paedophile. Tong, aged 34, of Ainsworth Road, Little Lever, has now been unmasked as a paedophile himself is serving a three year and three month prison sentence after having sexual conversations with a girl he thought was aged 13.

RIZWAN ALI, aged 26, of Russell Street, Bolton, was driving a Range Rover, hired using his brother's licence, when he hit and killed pedestrian 65-year-old Colin Olawumi on Topp Way, Bolton.

He had been taking drugs and speeding and was jailed for 41 months after admitting causing death by dangerous driving, having no insurance, causing death while drug driving and fraud.
