A section of the the M61 has been closed after police were called following concerns for a man's welfare.
The road has been closed in both directions from junction four, at the A6, Walkden, to junction three, A6053, Farnworth and A666, Kearsley.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said:"Police were called at around 2.20pm on Tuesday June 30 to reports of concern for the welfare of a man on a bridge on the M61.
"Officers are at the scene and temporary road closures are in place.
"The public are advised to avoid the area at this time."
In a tweet Highways England said: "The M61 southbound junction four to junction three is in the process of being closed in both directions, due to a police incident.
"GMP Traffic Police and North West Motorway Police are currently at the scene, Traffic Officers are en route to assist."
Update: The incident was resolved shortly before 4pm and the lanes were reopened.
