IN a recent Bygones story we printed a picture of Victoria Square complete with the elephant bus shelters in front of the town hall.

We asked if any Looking Back readers had any other images of Bolton town centre which they would like to share and Peter Craven came up trumps with these great photographs recording the town’s progress.

The first image shows the area around the town hall on which now stands Le Mans Crescent while another is of the former hospital which stood on Nelson Square. Peter also supplied the great colour photograph of Victoria Square.

His father was well known in the town for his scaffolding business and maintaining many civic buildings including the town hall, which you can see covered in scaffolding.
