LANCASHIRE Fire and Rescue service have issued a fresh warning about drowning in open water and have drawn the public's attention to a number of emergency throw lines around the county.

There are 20 of these boards around Lancashire and Greater Manchester, each of which is dedicated to someone who lost their life.

The risk is noticeably increased during periods of hot weather when people are more tempted to swim in open water.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: "Strong swimmers can drown, people thinking they will just go in to cool off can drown and that's as well as the other dangers associated with water.

"As today is another scorcher of a day please don't let someone you know become a statistic.

We've already attended water rescues this week from Lancashire rivers.
