OFFICERS have praised the work of local residents in Barley for helping in the arrest of three men after a police chase.

Burnley and Padiham Police posted about the incident on social media about the incident which started in Burnley at 12.30pm.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: "A Blue coloured VW Passat failed to stop at a red traffic light on Colne Road, Reedley, Burnley.

"Unluckily for the driver, police were directly behind the Passat and requested it to stop. The Passat failed to stop for police and a pursuit followed, which ended in the sleepy village of Barley, at which time the Passat was abandoned and three males made off on foot.

"Police were assisted by a large number of local residents, which resulted in all 3 males being arrested and one man aged 19 years old later being charged with numerous driving offences.

"Thank you once again the residents of Barley that assisted police yesterday, without your help it would have been a very different result.

"Any residents that were involved yesterday, please contact PC 92 Dave Cottam at 92@lancashire.pnn.police.uk."
