TWO petrol bombs were thrown at a of block of flats in Padiham.

Police were called at around 1.10am on Tuesday to a fire at an apartment at Riverside Mill, Lune Street.

Two men had approached the building and deliberately attempted to smash a window.

It is believed they threw one petrol bomb-type device, which did not make contact with the building and caused no further damage, and a second one which hit a window and then set alight. It caused damage to the exterior of the building and window.

The two offenders ran away towards Holmes Street.

Both were described as wearing padded jackets, face coverings and gloves, while one of the offenders was carrying a Farmfoods ‘bag for life’.

Police are now appealing for anybody with information to come forward, and in particular would like to speak to people who were in the areas of Lune Street, Holmes Street, Burnley Road or the housing estates backing onto the River Calder in Padiham, and who saw anything suspicious.

DI Paul Langley said: “This was a reckless attack which could have left people seriously injured, or worse.

“It goes without saying that those living in the apartments have been left extremely shaken and we are determined to find those responsible.

“We are now appealing for anybody with information about the incident to get in touch as soon as possible.

“Perhaps you were in the area and saw something suspicious, or perhaps you think you know who might be responsible. Whatever information you have we would urge you to get in touch with us straight away.”

Anybody with information is asked to get in touch on 101, quoting log number 57 of June 16th. Alternatively you can contact charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800555111 or at crimestoppers-uk.org.
