An arson investigation is underway after a person launched a bottle at a window setting fire to a block of flats.

Emergency services were called to converted flats on Lune Street in Padiham just after 1am on Tuesday after receiving calls from concerned residents who said they'd 'heard a bang' and seen flames coming from the building.

A spokesperson for the police said: "The incident is being treated as arson.

"A resident called and told us they'd heard a bang before looking out of the window and seeing flames.

"We believe someone has thrown a bottle at a window which contained some form of accelerant.

"Luckily the bottle did not smash the window and no injuries were reported."

A spokesperson for the fire service said crews from Burnley and Padiham were called to the incident at around 1.30am.

They spent three hours extinguishing the blaze and crime scene investigators were then called to help gather evidence.

A fire service spokesperson said: "We were called to a fire on Lune Street which involved flammable materials.

"Crews were at the scene until 4.20am and police remained there after we'd left."

Police enquiries are now ongoing and as of yet no arrests have been made.
