A 20 YEAR-OLD rapist registered on Snapchat using a bogus name within days of being released from prison.

Blackburn magistrates heard staff at the bail hostel where Jack William John O’Shea was living alerted police after realising he was using the internet.

O’Shea, of Highfield House Hostel, Lydia Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with notifications. He was sentenced to six months in prison after the court was told he had been recalled on prison licence until May 2022.

District Judge Joanne Hirst said it had been an immediate and calculated breach the minute O’Shea was released from prison.

“The controls on your behaviour are to protect people from your high risk offending,” said District Judge Hirst.

Ruby Mckeague, prosecuting, said when police seized the phone O’Shea was using they discovered he had a Snapchat account under the user name bensmith17oxo which he had not registered with police.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client accepted putting the user name on his phone.

“As a result of that he has been recalled to serve the entirety of his sentence which is another two years,” said Mr Taylor.
