A HOT air balloon that was trying to land on the moors near Hoddlesden was hit by a sudden strong wind which sent it into power cables back in 2005.

The balloon was dragged along the cables until one of the flying wires broke and the basket fell 12 feet to the ground landing on Blacksnape Road, eventually coming to rest against a high stone wall.

One of the four passengers who had been enjoying a two-hour pleasure flight suffered a suspected broken arm and two others received hospital treatment for minor injuries.

An inquiry into the accident later ruled that the pilot did everything he could to fight unexpected strong winds.
