A motorist stopped by police for lane hogging clearly needed to re-read his Highway Code after telling officers he was 'cruising along not really paying attention'.

The driver of this black seat was pulled by the police on the 'all lanes running' section of the M6 on Saturday evening.

Officers had tracked him driving in lane three (the outside right hand lane) for more than five miles, causing problems for two other motorists who were trying to get by and overtake.

When they asked him which lane he should drive in while overtaking his reply was 'lanes one or two'.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Driver stopped for lane hogging, driving along in lane three in the 'all lanes running section of the M6 motorway for over 9km (as measured evidentially by the marker posts), and causing two separate drivers problems getting by and overtaking.

"When asked which lane he should drive in if overtaking, he stated lanes one or two.

"It was pointed out it should be lane three, and to keep left at all times unless overtaking.

"He had no answer for running in lane three, other than he was 'cruising' along and not really paying attention.

"Driver dealt with by way of a traffic offence report TOR."
