Police officers with a combined service of more than three decades said they witnessed a 'new low' on Friday.
While travelling through Chorley, officers attempted to stop and speak with the driver of a Renault Megane.
Instead of complying, the driver ran from the vehicle, seemingly forgetting about the toddler he'd left behind.
In their 32 years' of service, the officers said they'd seen a lot, but nothing compared to this.
Luckily, the police knew who the man was and were able to return the child safely to its mother.
A spokesperson for the force said: "With a combined 32 years service, there isn't much #HO40 hasn't seen but this was a new low.
"They spotted this Renault in Chorley when the driver abandoned the car and ran off leaving a toddler behind.
"Fortunately we knew who he was and the child was returned to mum."
