BLACKBURN homeless charity Nightsafe is celebration its 30th anniversary with a successful fundraising challenge, which the organisation has had to adapt due to the ongoing coronavirus lockdown.

Every year the charity hosts its “sleep out” challenge in which participants are invited to take part in sponsored sleeps outdoors to raise money for homeless services.

This year however, the pandemic situation made mass sleep-outs impossible and so instead Nightsafe invited supporters take part in a “sleep-in” by spending the night of May 30 in tents in their garden, on sofas, in baths or anywhere other than their own bed and sharing their experiences via social media.

Nightsafe CEO Jan Larkin, who slept in her garden, said: “On Saturday night, wonderful people across Lancashire and further afield took part in a sleep-in for Nightsafe.

“We all had access to a toilet, a drink and an extra blanket if we needed one. In the morning we all had a shower and some breakfast.”

She added: “I can’t begin to imagine what it's like night after night."
