Police have issued warning notices to more than 40 cars that were seen blocking the road and pavement on ONE lane in a SINGLE day.

Officers in Chorley received multiple complaints over parking issues on Chapel Lane in Hoghton, after the weekend's good weather brought heavy traffic to the area.

On Sunday, police attended and found a large number of vehicles parked in a manner that was preventing tractors and machinery from being able to use the road and carry out their work.

A spokesperson for the police said: "A number of vehicles had also been found to be blocking the pavement meaning pedestrians had to walk in the road, around parked vehicles.

"There needs to be suitable space on the pavement to allow prams and wheelchairs to pass safely."

On Sunday, officers placed warning notices on approximately 40 vehicles that were found to be blocking the road, pavement or both.

They also spoke with drivers and residents as an educational measure to try and prevent further parking issues.

Police in Chorley said if vehicle obstructions continued to happen, officers would begin to issue fixed penalty notices.

The spokesperson said: "We appreciate that people wish to visit this area, but please be considerate when parking, to the local residents and farmers who depends on this road for access and their livelihood."

The warning notices come as other areas across East Lancashire have been blighted by anti-social parking.

On the same weekend officers in the Ribble Valley handed out around 17 fixed penalty notices to vehicles parking opposite solid white lines at Cromwell Bridge, close to Clitheroe.

Just 24 hours prior to this, police had snapped multiple cars parked illegally opposite the solid white lines and had issued a warning to anyone parking there that they would be fined should the behaviour be replicated the following day.

Over in Haslingden, it was a similar situation, as officers ticketed more than 20 cars for irresponsible parking on a busy road on Monday evening.

People had been spotted parked on the pavement on the Grane Road, Haslingden, forcing anyone walking along to step into traffic on a 50mph stretch of road.

A police spokesman said: "After complaints from local residents this evening we have ticketed over 20 vehicles on the Grane Road, Haslingden.

"Vehicles parking completely blocking the pavement forcing pedestrians into a 50mph road."
