AN Accrington charity has been honoured by Her Majesty.

Maundy Relief has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award such a group can receive.

It helps people with physical, mental health and financial problems.

Cllr Miles Parkinson, Hyndburn Council’s leader, said; “Each and every day Maundy Relief lives up to its mission of providing an immediate response to those in need, and never more so than during the coronavirus crisis when their volunteers have been vital to the Hyndburn Hub."

Lucy Hardwick, Maundy Relief’s manager, said: “Everyone is delighted and deeply honoured to have been awarded a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. Volunteers are at the heart of all we do. Our founder Dorothy McGregor gave her time freely and inspired countless others .”
