JUST one coronavirus-related death has been reported by hospitals within the county over the last 24 hours.

The one fatality to have been reported after a patient tested positive from COVID-19 came from within Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which now has a total death toll of 187.

Lancashire's remaining trusts reported no new deaths to NHS England.

Doctors and nurses working for the East Lancashire Hospitals Trust have now reported a total 188 deaths, while Lancashire Teaching Hospitals have recorded 212.

Meanwhile the number of people to die from coronavirus in care homes across the east of the county has doubled in the past month.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics shows that at the beginning of May a total of 29 people had suspected or confirmed coronavirus on their death certificates - but that has now risen to 59.

The two areas most affected in the east of the county are Hyndburn and Pendle, both with 13 care home deaths since the start of the outbreak.

To date, Blackburn with Darwen is one of the least affected areas with eight coronavirus deaths in care homes, while the Ribble Valley has had just three.
