A DERELICT town centre set of public conveniences is set to become offices or a shop.

Plans have been submitted to renovate the toilet block next to 221 Union Road, Oswaldtwistle, for commercial use.

The small brick block has been unused for several years and is in a state of advanced disrepair.

A H King, the parent company of construction and civil engineering firm R Whatmore Ltd of Brook Street in the town, have asked Hyndburn Council for permission to redevelop the site.

The planning application for the change of use of the former public conveniences to offices also promises new car parking provision.

Spokesman for A H King said: "We are also looking at a possible shop unit. Once we have started the work we will be a bit clearer on the eventual use."

Oswaldtwistle County Councillor Peter Britcliffe said: “I welcome this change of use. It has been a derelict public toilet for many years.

"Anything which improves Union Road is welcome.”
